Epson 1200 making shrieking noise when starting up

It also does it when running a cleaning cycle. The noise seems to be coming from the left of the printer, where the paper feeding gears are, but I don't see anything blocking the gears with the housing removed. I can move the gears in both directions fairly easily when the power is off.

I note that the shrieking takes place during the times that the carriage assembly is parked to the right of the printer, so it doesn't seem to have anything to do with it, but I lubricated the carriage shaft anyway.

The noise occurs about three times during the cleaning cycle, but is intermittent, with the gears running smoothly during other times in the cycle. When the noise occurs, the small metal lever (that when pushed left by the carriage assembly, helps the back paper feed gears engage the large main gear) vibrates and rotates down slowly, but I don't know if that is a symptom or a cause of the problem.

Any insight would be appreciated. I could send a quicktime video, if it would help.
