LaserWriter Pro 600/630 light output
I have a LaserWriter Pro 630 printer which has suddenly started printing very light on the page. I have tried two new toner cartridges but the output does not change. Is there any things I can try to troubleshoot the problem?
There is an economode function that will give you a light image in the interests of saving toner. The printer might have somehow gotten into that mode. You'd need to reset it through the printer software. The only 2 other things that can cause light output are hv problems or dirty optics in the scanner assembly.
OK. I'm going to take it into a service tech to look at. Over the phone he mentioned that it could be the scanner assembly so I suspect he knows what he's talking about. Thanks.
I also have a LaserWriter Pro 630 that I got used and that works well, except that the output is too light. I downloaded the print utility from the Apple site--the utility has a control for print density, i.e., darkness (and also for shutting off the startup page). However, the Apple site says, oddly, that the darkness control may not have much effect, which seems to be the case here. I tried printing out an email, and the email text was quite light, but the page footer density was normal, so apparently it's not the toner cartridge or the electronics. Is there a workaround to get the whole page to print darker? Thanks.
