HP LJ IIIP Extra Sheet Output

My HP LJ IIIP has recently developed a strange problem.
Now, when multiple page print jobs are issued, it puts
out a blank sheet of paper after each sheet printed,
except for the last sheet. Single sheet print jobs
only put out one sheet. I don't think the problem
is related to the computer or application software
because the problem exists also when performing the
printer's built-in test function; a blank sheet is
output after the initial test sheet but not after
the cleaning sheet. There is one anomally to this.
That is, the first printer test run after turning
the printer on only puts out two sheets. All subsequent
tests put out three sheets. I have tried the rear
panel engine test switch and the ONLINE button power on
reset function. No change to the problem. Any ideas?
Is the problem occuring from the mf tray, the optional lower tray or both?

Thanks for the reply, Moe. The problem only occurs
when paper is fed from the LC tray. The problem
does not appear when paper is fed from the MP tray.

This should be giving you a 41 error. I'm reasonably sure our 41 error kit should fix the problem.

What is a 41 error? No error messages are being
issued on the display.
