HP Laserjet 5P margin problem

I have 2 networked machines, identically configured (as far as I can tell). They are both windows 2000 SP4.

Almost all types of documents print identically from both machines to the 5P (.txt, .jpg, .doc, .xls, .pdf, etc), but one type of document doesn't.

The problem doc type is a form consisting of a jpg and some xml fields that are combined in a "black box" application and sent to the printer. From one machine it prints fine, from the other the whole doc is shifted so that the left side is cutoff by the margin.

I have checked the margin settings on both machines, and they are the same. I have gone so far as to capture the print jobs using a commercial tool and examine the PCL code with a hex editor. The document that prints incorrectly has all drawing commands shifted by 150 device units to the left.

Is there any way to monitor a process as it creates a print job, in order to "spy" on where the margin settings are being pulled from? Thank you for any help you can provide!
