Epson Stylus CX5400 broken cover

About 4 or 5 months ago, the cover on my Epson Stylus CX5400 broke on the left side and it won't close. I have to shove a pencil or pen in the hole to make the printer think it's closed. It still works fine, but it's really hard to use the scanner when it is up in the air. And I think dust is getting inside even though I try to keep a towel over it. I have tried and tried but can't get it closed. I can see where it is broken. The plastic thingy that fits into the hole and also houses the spiral cord is broken. Anyone have any ideas? I can't afford to buy a new printer right now and I am afraid it's gonna stop working one of these days. Thanks for any help!
