Hp HP LaserJet 1200

hp laserjet 1200 left side panel lost

I lost the left side panel and now the lower light blinks. In the manual it says Door open, media out, no toner
cartridge, or media jam. I can't find any switches that check if the left side panel is on, where are they?

I got this pinter for free (it was being thrown out) so there might be something wrong with it. When I turn it on it feeds paper for 3 seconds. Is the paper sensor broken too or is that normal?
I don't know how you can lose a panel that big, but the printer wouldn't know if it was missing or installed as there aren't any switches made by the cover. It shouldn't feed paper when it is turned on. If it is feeding, then it would point at the paper feed roller solenoid being stuck or the plate on it knocked out of position. The plate keeps the roller from turning until the solenoid is told to pull in and let the roller turn.

With the side cover missing the front cover might not be closing tightly.

Push in on the front cover and see if that helps.

By feeds paper do you mean the main motor runs? Or is it actually picking up a sheet of paper?

Is there a toner cartridge in the printer?

On the HP Laserjet 1200 series when the side panel is taken off or is not seated properly, the front cover will not seat properly. A flange built into the side panel seems to push an interlock just behind and below the light panel when the side panel is seated correctly. Without the side panel, the front panel will not close completely.
