Laserjet 4L won't print

The printer feeds paper just fine but does not print either in test mode or data. There is no LCD or self diagnostics that I can see. How can I diagnose further?
Your next option is to change the cartridge. It may be defective. If changing the cartridge does not cure the problem, I strongly suspect that the laser unit or the transfer roller is acting up.

How can I test for a defective laser unit or transfer roller? Remember, there is no LCD on this unit.

First, let's try changing the cartridge. Have you done so yet.
If yes, then, you can try disassembling the machine and making sure all
the cable connections are good. Unplug and replug, reassemble and then
test again.

Good Luck

Sounds like a bad hv power supply. A bad hv power supply won't give any light indications. If it were a bad laser unit, you'd get all the lights coming on. If you pressed the button you would get either the 1st and 2nd lights from the top or the 1st and 3rd lights from the top coming on. The hv power supply is part of the controller board. The transfer roller almost never goes bad. If it did go bad, you'd have faint print but not blank copies. You can check and see if the hv contacts to the toner cartridge are ok. Those are the 3 pins sticking up on the right side when you pull the toner cartridge out.

I have a 4L that won't print either. The amber light stays lit solid when the printer is powered on. The user's manual says that this is either an incorrectly installed cartridge or the top cover isn't closed. I tried a new cartridge (to replace the ORIGINAL cartridge), took the cover off and verified everything looked OK (cables, etc.) and it still doesn't work. Can someone offer advice?? Is there a place where I can purchase a REAL repair manual?? I searched the Web but couldn't find one. Thanks in advance for your help.
