Hp HP Color LaserJet 2840

hp 2840 printer

after a thunderstorm i have the following problem.
upon power on and initialzation i get the message "scanning error 2", power on / off does not solve problem, computer is not connected to printer, ann ideas
52 Scanner Error The device has experienced an internal hardware error.

Turn off the power by using the power switch, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power and wait for the device to initialize.

If the error persists, replace the scanning assembly

LOL Stephen, your post has zero to do with Steve's error. Looks like you cut and pasted that answer from somewhere. Your post refers to a laser scanner in a printer, not the scanner in the upper document scanner assembly of Steve's unit, which produces the scanner error "2" not "52". Usually when the lamps in the upper scanner assembly dont come on and warm up you will get that error.

Reference my 2840 Laserjet: When I scan a document and preview it, everything works fine and I can see the entire page as a preview; but when I attmept to scan the document, I can see half the page scanned and then the scan stops and I get an error message without a reference number. The message states that there is a feeder jam; but that occurs both when I use the feeder or the flatbed. Does anybody have any experience with this malfunction? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Jump onto HP's website. and go to the drivers/downloads for 2840. at the bottom of the page is a fix scan utility. download and run this file it fixs 99\% of those sort of scanner errors

Here is the link for the fixscan utility

Thanks, I'll give that a try tommorow as I am not at the printer now. I appreciate the recommendation, and I'll let you know how it goes. - Anonymous
I have an HP 2840 printer that is networked and prints fine, but I cannot scan and get an error saying "the scanner is not connected to a PC"

Any ideas?

Thanks

Roostking, did you solve the problem you posted in this thread on 20th Feb 2008? I had a problem very like it, and it was due to the IP address changing - try fixing it to what it was when the software was installed, that might fix it. - seglea
HP makes some of the best printers I have ever owned. I will never ever purchase another one that does anything but print as HP can't seem to figure out what the term "Multi-Function means. I would suspect that the manulas were incorrectly translated in India, China, or wherever and the actual phrase was "Multi-Foulup"

After reading all your info on the hp 2840, I also have the scanner errror 2 and have tried all your suggestions except removal of the glass and replacing. What I would like to know is what am I asking for a bulb or is it called something else?

I've had the same problem with my hpclj 2840 printer/scanner/copier/fax AIO. The scanner has stopped initializing after an ip change of the whole network. Has anyone found the answer to this?

After rebooting my 2840, it will print and receive faxes for a couple minutes. At about 3 minutes, it recalibrates, after which it must be rebooted before it will print again. Any ideas ? I tried HP and they were of no help. Machine seems to recalibrate incessantly even if no print orders are being sent.

My printer prints with a black line at the border of the page; I have done everything I think possible including changing tonner, and drum. If i cpoy is the same thing I have to trim the edge.

Does the black line occur for printing only or is this when you are scanning or copying? IF it occurs with copying, is it when you use the flat bed only or with the document feeder only or both? - unknown
I try to print a document from my computer and it does not print, but it sends the paper through with no print on it. When I use it as a copier all is well and it makes the proper copy. What is going on?

Remove the printer driver from the computer, turn off the computer and turn back on and reload the drivers again and see if it works.

My PCs running Windows XP can print to HP2840 but reports "ERROR CONNECTING TO SCANNER". Something changed , either in the HP driver or Windows OS.Ideal solution for me would be able to use the scanner on my notebook with WIn7 OS, but I'd settle for my XPs talking to HP2840 for scanning. Help!!!!!

I need to print 250 letters, I send the job to the printer and it starts printing about 10 letters quickly, then it stops and only prints 1 letter about every 15 seconds. At this rate it will take forever to print the letters. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

I also have a black line/smear on the right hand side of my printed material about 1cm from the edge. Has anyone found a solution?

90\% of the time the issue is the drum unit. Just remove the drum and see if the line is on the bottom of the drum. If it is, replacing the drum will fix it.

our hp 2840 all in one, says the bulb is warming, but nothing changes, does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? We recently replaced all the cartridges so we would like to be able to use it.
by unknown on Oct 16, 2012 at 2:09pm Add comment
If you open the top and watch it, you should see the bulb light up. After a while of warming up, it should start to move. Then the scanner will try to find home position, which is a white strip underneath the glass on the right side. You'll see the scanner move to the right and then hunt back and forth trying to center on the strip. If it is unsuccessful after a minute or two, it should give a Scanner fail error 2 or a Scanner fail error 5 message on the display. - moe
