Apple LW Pro 630

My LW Pro 630 appears to start up fine, but it makes a (new) strange "whirring" sound for just a moment, sometimes when I first turn it on, and always just before it is ready to feed the first sheet and begin printing a document.

The green light stays solid after initial startup diagnostics (as usual); it blinks as a document is being sent to the printer. Then, just as it is ready to print, the paper begins to feed, accompanied by this "whirring" sound. Then nothing else happens: no printing, just the green light blinking away.

When I run the Apple Printer Utility while it is in this state, it reports that the printer is busy.

Is this the same problem another user reported that was solved by replacing the motor (using an HP4 motor, if I recall)? I've looked thru the kits for Apple and HP, but do not see anything that resembles this description. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks, George (aka, Typefreak)
