Hp HP Color Copier 120

HP K80,

I have a relative with an HP K80 that has been working fine for years. It was set up so that as soon as a page was inserted into the scanner the HP Director (wizard) would pop up and she could click on the SCAN button. Now she only gets an error message, "Sorry, scanner could not be intitalized (scanner not found)." Even if she clicks on the HP Director icon and selects "SCAN" the same message appears and the scanner doesn't function.

The printer function works normally. And the scanner can be run by going into Programs/Microsoft Office/Office Tools/Microsoft Office Document Scanning. That driver gets the scanner to process the document, scans it and presents a copy on the screen. Just can't get the HP Director driver to run correctly (??). This "work around" is OK but my relative is much more comfortable with the simpler HP process if we could get it working again.

I uninstalled the HP software, reinstalled off the original CD but I get the same problem.

The PC has a Pentium 4, 0.5 GB RAM, 120 GB hard drive and runs Windows XP, Home edition.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
