Epson Color Stylus 600

I have an Epson Color Stylus 600 and I have a question about the flat metal lever on the left side of the return, some people have mentioned it in a few posts.

The lever tells the printer to feed the paper when the Print Cartridge Holder Assembly makes contact with it, but it never returns to the "up" position after the paper feeds through. I have to manually move the lever to the "up" position after each page feeds. ("Up" being closer to the vertical and "down" being closer to the horizontal)

Do you think there is a spring disconnected or something? Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks,
Laura
The lever should be in the down position after a paper is loaded. The lever will move to the up position whenever the platen roller rotates towards the back of the printer. Without interferring with the lever does the printer loads paper properly?
