Hp HP LaserJet 5L

HP 5L feed prob.

The paper feeds as far as the drum, not quite enough to print anything, then stops. If the paper is perfectly flat it sometimes goes through OK. I replaced the feed roller and pads a few months ago and it has been working fine since then, until this problem arose.
Same problem with a 6L, Just replaced the pickup rollers, and feed roller and the fuser. Paper stops at the fuser entrance. Very frustrated!!!

Is there any print on the page when this happens? Did you try an engine test? See troubleshooting page for test location.

If I do a print test page there is no print on the page and the paper stops at the entrance to the fuser.

Did an engine test and the paper feeds just until it reaches the fuser.

You didn't mention any lights coming on. We do have a troubleshooting page on 5L/6L lights. I'm going to say it's a scanner problem. This is due to the blank page and the fact that the paper is stopping before it enters the fuser. At that point the engine is looking for a return signal from the scanner assembly. If it doesn't see the laser return, it'll do a blank sheet and should give error lights and stop paper feed. The engine test eliminated the formatter board as a source of the problem.

When the paper jams the top amber light is on.

If it is a scanner problem, could it be caused by the disassemby of the printer to put the pick-up roller in? All of the wires seem OK.

I don't see you as having bought the kit from us. The problem definitely could have been put in when the pickup rollers were changed. There is one connector in particular on the scanner that is a little hard to get in.
