hp 5si 55.3 error

I have a 5si that gegts a 55.3 error(pprdy signal lost) very intermittently. It might happen 6 or 7 times a day, or it might be 5 or 6 days between occurences. This began shortly after we changed the maintenance kit.I have looked at everything in the service manual, but the parts they suggest replacing are expensive and I cant believe that this machine really needs a laser, DC controller, and a formatter to fix this problem.Any suggestions to narrow this problem down orto look at anything else that might be causing this? This is a standard model with duplex and a jet direct card added. thx
I have seen many 55 error when there is a duplex unit. They usually indicate a incompatibilty between the fuser and the duplex unit. Best way to test is to remove the duplex unit from the printer with the power off and power back on. Leave the duplex unit out for a while and see if the error comes back. If it does not, then the fuser you put in has an issue with the duplex. It does not mean the fuser is bad, just that this particular fuser does not want to work right with the duplex unit installed. It has nothing to do with using the duplex unit just a problem when both are installed at the same time. Go figure.

Thanks, dmzcompute.I think that changing the fuser worked. It was hung up when I went back to it, so I replaced the fuser and it started printing immediately.I really appreciate your quick response. Thanks again.
