HP IIIP Won't Print

My hp IIIP has some problems. After replacing the scanner motor and testing to make sure the printer was working, I put the printer on the shelf for several months. Now I want to use it and in general it won't print. I get blank pages and no error messages. Sometimes after sitting for several hours with power applied, it will print a single test page or from the PC and them just keeps on putting out blank pages without stopping. I have taken a toner cartridge from another working printer so I am confident the toner is OK. I did a reset to default settings. Any ideas?
If you are using the optional lower cassette tray to print, try doing the same job from the drop down MF tray. If that works ok, then this will fix it http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/hp/K10 If not, then let us know and we'll try some other troubleshooting steps.

I was using the LC. I have legal paper in it. I tried your suggestion and it will print from the MP tray although the printing is rather light. - Anonymous
Light printing could be either caused by the toner cartridge or the high voltage power supply. Have you tried sliding the density slider to the dark side? The density slider is inside the printer, just above the toner cartridge.

I pushed the slider all the way to the right and the printing was a little darker but still light. The toner cartridge prints OK in my HP IIP+ so I think it's all right. - Anonymous
