Deskjet670C clear strip came off

The clear guide strip that runs behind the cartridge assembly has somehow detached. Its long and clear with bar-code style marking on it and runs from one side of the printer to the other.
I think I've re-attached it ok but somehow it doesn't look right and the retainer on the left side seems more stressed than I remember it.
I don't know it the dull side of the guide faces to the front or back of the printer. It now makes a horrible grinding noise and then stalls with both lights blinking. HELP!
It's hard to reattach that strip without taking to cover off. I've seen a lot of little ones reach in and yank the strip out. You can patch the end with some scotch tape and then cut a hole in it, then reattach. The grinding noise is a carriage stall condition. It's normally due to a lack of lubrication on the carriage rail. We recommend some silicon spray on it. The orientation of the strip doesn't make much difference. A light beam shines through it and counts the lines so the cartridge knows where it is.
