Laserjet 53.11.03 Error Code

I have a laserjet 4 printer which works like a charm. I just purchased a HP 4si JetDirect ethernet card which i was told would be compatible with this printer. I installed this card and now upon power up, i get a 53.11.03 error.

I think this is the SIMM RAM, Slot 1, Power up Ram Test failed code, but I don't see how the jetdirect card could be affecting it.

Any ideas on what the problem is? The Jetdirect card is brand new so i assume that works. Is this card truly compatible with the Laserjet 4???

That would be a simm problem. I don't see how the Jet Direct card could affect it. You could pull the card out and see if the error goes away. The 4si card should work in the 4.

Its weird though. WHen the jet direct card is plugged in, i get that error, however when the jet direct is not installed, everything works fine.

It's unlikely, but the jet direct card could be causing the problem. I've seen a couple of printers where the jet direct card caused the whole printer to go dead after less than a second of operation. I've got a few good used jet direct cards on the shelf.
