Epson Epson Stylus Photo 900

Epson 900 black ink freeflows

My Epson Stylus Color 900 Freeflows black ink while printing. It's as if the black print head is getting instructions to print at maximum at all times. It does this even when I try printing "color only" and going into MS Word and printing red text. I can see the red text but the black print head follows and dumps ink over everything (about a 1/4" wide stripe across the page when printing text). I tried replacing the black cartridge and the same things continues to occur.

What is happening?

For what it's worth, I have been experiencing the *exact* same problem for about a week now. I have no idea what's up with it. I called Epson Technical Support today thinking that I would just go ahead and replace the black cartridge anyway (even though it was not empty)...but thought I would check with them first. The tech support representative told me to go ahead and change it and that would most likely fix the problem. I did that about an hour ago...and it didn't work.

I have only had this printer since April...so it is still under the warranty. I plan on contacting Epson on Monday to figure out what to do next.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help...but I do find it interesting that you are having the same problem. I have been searching the web for other problems with the 900 but it gets really good reviews for the most part.

Bet it's the printhead. Don't why tech support tried to tell you the cartridge might fix it. Save the other cartridge. You can use it later. Send it in and get it fixed under warranty, and you'll get another new cartridge when you get it back.
