Epson Epson Stylus Color 740

Hi, Epson stylus color 740 problems

Hello,

I have had my Epson Stylus 740 for over five years now and taken care of it, had no problems that a quick head clean couldn't sort out.
Yesterday I changed the colour cartridge and the printer was running it's checks etc as it does when you have installed a new cartridge, while it was doing this, my young son crawled under the desk and turned off the power. After restarting everything the printer now makes a loud knocking noise when preparing the print head, but when it prints it's fine except there is very little ink coming out. I have run head clean a few times with no improvement, but as it was working fine prior the cartridge change and power switch off I don't think the heads can be blocked. Is it time for a new printer? Or is there anything that can be done?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Regards,

Kevin
The cap assembly is probably knocked out of position. The cap assembly is what seals the bottom of the print head when it is in the parked position.

Thanks for the quick reply Chel.
Is there any home remedy for this?

Check if the service manual is available for download from this site and follow the section on disassembly of the cap assembly.

There is a manual, but no mention of the cap assembly. - kleefarr
You need the "service manual" which is available on this site.

It was time for a new one, so I have just ordered a CX6600. My wife will kill me!

IF YOU HAVE GOT THE CX6600 SEND IT BACK,
YOU HAD FIVE YEARS OUT OF YOUR 740 (ONE OF THE BEST EPSON MADE)
the cx6600 will not last two if you use it alot!

heads dry out,big strip down to change wast ink pads,
like you i had a 740 great printer, then had a cx6600 bad bad move! take a look at the canon mp740 ten times better.
