Epson Epson Stylus Color 740

Epson 740 - Every other line is distorted

My Epson 740 does not print as crisply as it once did. Printing is not faint, but now relatively clean and crisp lines alternate with lines in which letters are "fuzzy" and sometimes "wavy" or misaligned. I have done several cleaning cycles, changed the black cartridge, and cleaned the bar on which the cartridge assembly travels. All produced no change. The nozzle test shows all lines printing crisply and completely, but the middle and right boxes do not show a perfect pattern, with a small number of the lines not "matching up". I have tried to change the alignment setting, just to experiment, but the utility won't let me change the number -- when I try a different number and ask it to realign, it simply resets itself to the orignal number. The print quality problem I describe became evident after the printer was not used for several months.
You might try one of the head cleaning kits they sell on this site.

Look at the links at the top of this page.

If you watch your print head closely while printing it probably printe 2-3 lines per pass, so it can be a head problem and some lines will be perfect.
