Hp HP LaserJet 4

HP LJ 4+ Envelope Feeder

I have posted this message on the newsgroup comp.periphs.printers and seen Moe's response. So, I thought I would post it here also for any other members of this forum.

My problem is that I have a HP LJ4+ with envelope feeder and the envelopes come out wrinked. What I am looking for is either a *specific* brand of envelopes that wont wrinkle or a modification to the printer.

Either is appreciated. Moe mentioned a repair kit for the HP 4+ and I thought that if this was happening to anybody else, an archived message here might help.

Also, if anybody knows where I can get a user manual for the HP LaserJet 4+, I would appreciate it. I know that HP offers them but I was looking to save some money.

Thanks a million!

I think I have a few HP4+ manuals on the shelf in our shop. Taking the weekend off, so I'll check on Monday. On the 4+ fuser, you might try lifting up the shipping lever on the right side. This will reduce pressure on the envelope on that side. That's basically what the HP modification does. The lever is on the inside of the vertical metal piece. I think the best solution is to trade up to a 4000 or a 4050. That's what we did. Rear exit and it handles envelopes without wrinkling, curling or sealing. Great printer.
