Canon S500 override cartridge out

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. I have a Canon S500 with a full black ink cartridge and I am trying to print a text document off a webpage that has some color on it. I checked the 'print grayscale' box and the printer is still freezing up saying I have to replace one of the empty color cartridges before I can print anything.

I don't want to have to go spend money just to print something black. Is there any way to override this feature?

It really sucks that Canon has made this printer so that none of it works if just one of the cartridges is empty. It costs too much money to replace the color ones if all I'm doing is printing black text documents.

Thanks for any help!
