Hp HP LaserJet 4

HP LaserJet 4 blank areas

The last few times I printed out a document, I get a blank space (approx 1/8 inch) located 6 inches from the left side of page and runs down the length of the page. I would like to know how to correct this. Thank you for any help you can offer me.
There's a few things you can try:

1) lightly shake toner cartridge or just swap it out;

2) open top cover and use the green brush to wipe clean the laser scanner lens; it's located at the top near the lid hinges but check the service manual if you're not sure what I'm talking about

3) it's also possible the laser scanner has gone bad and needs to be replaced. According to HP web site the exchange price for this is $180 (part# C2001-69006) and full price is $255 (part# RG5-0449-000CN). Ouch!!

As always, service manual has info on how to swap this part out. Hope this helps. . .

I agree it could be something blocking the laser beam hitting the cartridge drum. Sometimes a label pops up on the cartridge and blocks the opening. It could also be some toner has dropped on the charge transfer roller. This would deaden it in that area and inhibit it from pulling the toner off the drum and onto the surface of the paper. In any case, there would be no need to replace any parts.
