LW II NTX Hieroglyphics

We are trying to rejuvenate an Apple Laserwriter II NTX. Based on your troubleshooting info, we sent for the kit to fix the pickup roller, but another problem has us puzzled.

Right now, the paper will feed manually with a slight push and will print fine so long as the "back door" is open to provide a straight path. However, when that door is closed and the paper has to exit the "normal" way, some or all of the type is very fragmented and illegible. It's aligned ok horizontally, but broken up and looks like sort of strange hieroglyphics.

Does anyone know what's happening? If so, is the problem likely to be resolved with the paper jam fix, or is it something else entirely?

Thanks for the great Website!
The exit jam kit covers all the gears that drive the paper out the top of the printer. It should fix your problem.
