HPLJ4M - Light Printing?

I have a HP LJ4M with about 11,500 copies on it.

The toner low light came on several weeks ago and I have been printing with it that way and today it finally gave me an almost white sheet. So I
replaced the toner cartridge and things didn't improve much. Looked in the HP book and it said if you have light output to change the cartridge
so I went and got another one and put it in and still have the same problem. The code on the first cartridge box was 03 2002Z and 07 2002Z on
the second box.

Any idea what might be wrong and what part I might need?

Ed, you seem to have posted this everywhere. I hope you got my email answer. I checked that first. Let me know if you need any further help.

Thanks to friend who let me borrow her LJ4 I was able to diagnose the problem as a bad laser/scanner assembly. I took the scanner assembly apart and cleaned all the mirror surfaces and other optics as Moe had suggested. Did not fix the problem. Today I replaced the unit with a remanufactured unit ($69) and now my printer is back printing normal again.
