Hp HP LaserJet IIIP+

Hp Laserjet IIIp printer

When I print a page with my Hp laserjet IIIp printer it prints ok but the whole page comes out grayish. I cleaned the rollers and tried another cartridge and the same thing happens. What can be the problem and can I fix it? Thanks.
Gray pages are usually a failure of the wiper blade inside the cartridge. Gotta get a new one. A good one.

Thanks for your quick reply Phil. I'll try a new cartridge.

I tried five different cartridges for that printer and the same thing happened. Anyone else have any ideas for Popy and me?

Yes, use an OEM and not one that has been sitting in the garage for 3 years. I once sampled 5 remanufactured 75A cartridges from the same vendor. Every one of them was bad.

My pages don't come out completely gray, but with grayish / black stripes in middle portion of the page. The edges are clear. Per previous postings I might try a new cartridge; I'd feared needed a new drum.

My HP IIIP laserjet just started NOT printing the top 3 inches of the page (8 1/2 x 11 paper). Changed cartridges, but same thing. Anyone have any ideas? Oh yes, it has been "smelling" awful lately as well - kinda like burnt food or such!

Are the top 3 inches missing, or is the print 3 inches lower? Try pushing this button (you'll have to lower the back of the printer by loosening the 2 screws) http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/guides/engine/lx
You'll get a page of lines. Are they all the way to the top?

MOE:

Oh, forgot to say the first time around, the top 3 inches only print very lightly - can hardly make out the words - rest of page prints fine.

tried your suggestion - top 3 inch STILL the same - only prints very lightly (can hardly make out the words - rest of page prints fine.

any other thoughts? - Anonymous
