Epson Epson Stylus Color 640

epson stylus 640

Idiot that I am, I moved the head when replacing the cartridge & now it slams left, won't track and jumps right in the middle of printing. can I fix this myself,( specfic instructions wanted!!1) or should I take it in?
If you are luck it is a very simple fix. with the printer on press the paper feed switch so that the arriage moves from it's parked position. Then once it moves pull the power plug.

Next take a paper towel or lint free cloth and clean the metal bar that the carriage glides on. Then with a q=tip clean the buahings on both sides of the carriage (print head assembly).

Once the metal bar (guide shaft)is clean apply a few drops of light oil like 3in 1 oil. Now slide the carriage side to side a few times to work the oil in.

You may have a hardware problem but most of the time the giude shaft justs needs to be cleaned and oiled. Also it's a good idea to clean the giude shaft every 6 to 12 months.

I hope this helps,
