HP5si Noise from tray 2 pick up rollers

Everytime when it picks up paper from tray 2, I see and hear the pick-up rollers jumping up and down. Sometime once per page but mostly several times per page. This printer has about 62k copies on it. The rollers are on good shape, but what ever makes that assembly go up and down seems to be where the trouble is.
Thanks for your help.
As you said it is probably the pickup assembly and the only way I know to fix is to replace the complete PIU. You can rotate all 3 rollers from tray 3 to tray 2 and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes depending on media some rollers will wear out before they should. Also you can observe the movement by opening the door above tray 2 and using a flashlight see you can can see someting wierd happening. You can also compare it to tray 3, by removing tray 2 and watching the movement of tray 3. Both trays pickup paper the same way.

I did rotate the feed rollers and it did get better, but there still is the problem. I wanted to see if there was something else besides replacing the PIU.

Why not first order a new set of pickup rollers just to be sure. The rollers you have should have ribs on them and not be shinny or smooth. If they are, they need to be replaced. Remember the roller in tray 3 were probably also used. Another option if you only use 1 size paper would be to load that paper in tray 3 and leave tray 2 empty. That will also work. If on the other hand you get jams from tray 3 with that same noise, you definitly have a PIU problem and should order an advance exchange one from partnow.com or depot-america.com. It is not as expensive as you think when you send back the old one. Last time I looked it was about 129.00.
