deskjet 660C

howdy I have 2 old deskjet 660Cs. One prints but smears the black
probably heads need cleaning. I have read that soaking in isopropanol may be good
but I need to get the freaking box apart.
One is for parts.
Basic question : how do I get the covers off? do I need a torex
driver? then there are these damned plastic tabs with a secret series of
manipulations.
Any hints or references to service sites will be appreciated.
If it's black streaks, take both cartridges out. With a paper towel with some alcohol, or glass plus, windex, etc. on it, clean the UNDERSIDE of the cartridge carriage. You can fold down the assembly in front of the pickup rollers to give you better access to the bottom of the carriage. That should take care of the black streaks. Also, clean the cartridge as well before putting back in.

Don't know if it's too late but. After you take out the screws take out the paper tray. It has that slider under it. The box back of the printer has latches on each side. Push them up through the 2 holes then open it like a clam shell. The case is a bit tough but all you have to do is pop the tabs that hold it on. I use 2 screwdriver one to pop the tabs and the other to keep the case seperated till I get the other tab. One side has 3 tabs and the other 2.
