LJ3100/3150 door open/no cartridge error

I had a LJ 3100, and now also have a LJ 3150xi with the same problem: DOOR OPEN/NO CARTRIDGE error message. Any ideas?
There is an interlock switch above the toner cartridge. On the left side of the toner cartridge there is a flat plate on the top. This engages a lever and puts it in position so when the top closes it pushes it into a micro switch. I had one last week where the plate on the cartridge was bent too far downward and the switch mechanism was broken. I manually bent the tab up and replaced the mechanism. I ordered an extra switch mechanism if you need one. You have to take the covers off to see the operation.

I have an HP 3100 that when plugged in does two things.
1) Green and yellow lights are on.
2) If there is paper loaded it sucks them through individually and deposits the blank paper in the correct place.
The led has no display at all. That is all it does. Any answers?

This is probably one that can't be diagnosed without seeing it. You'll probably need a controller board which is pretty expensive and a bit difficult to replace.
