HP 4+ fuser problem

My HP LJ4+ started to give me printouts with 'wrinkles'across the width of the paper every 7cm. I removed the fuser unit and I saw that the rubber roller has a long groove in it and the metal roller (housing the heater lamp)has an equivalent black mark on it. It looks like to me that the heated roller has overheated and has melted a groove out of the rubber roller!
Question for MOE: can I just buy your replacement roller kit or do I need to worry about the fusing roller overheating???
The rubber roller doesn't normally come with the fuser kit, but we can add it in. There is a thermal fuse that rides on the heat roller. If it overtemps to the point where it would melt the rubber roller, the fuse should have blown. It could possibly be a bad ac power module that stayed on long enough to overtemp it and a bad thermal fuse that didn't blow. It's hard for me to say what happened to it since I can't observe it.
