HP Laserjet 5si-Manual Tray (Tray #1)

We just received a used HP laserjet 5si, and we are having problems with the manual tray, tray #1. It will not pick up paper, single sheets or a stack. I did try to force a piece up into the pick up roller and it took it once, but if I try again, forcing the paper up usually wrinkles the paper, and it has not taken it but that one time. I've tried regular paper, letterhead, and labels.

Any thoughts on a solution?

Watch it carefully and see if the lifting plate in front of the tray comes up and the roller turns.

i have the same problem and seems that the lifting plate is not lifting and aligning itself with the rollers

The 5si manual feed has a problem with the clutch getting sticky. Sent a print job to the manual tray and listen for the clutch to engage. Place your fingertips on the lift plate and push down or bounce the plate when you hear the gears engage. This often works to "unstick" the clutch and get the lift plate to work again. Worse case senerio, you will have to pull the tray 1 assembly and dis-assemble the clutch to remove the sticky grease. I belive that there was a service note to this affect.

i have had this problem twice. I replacved the Multi-Purpose Pick-up assembly to fix it. Part number is RG5-1880-AEX. This number is froma company named the Printer Works. You must return the bad unit. Price is $49.00.
