HP4 Plus Missing characters

Not really a printer repair problem, but didn't know where else to go.

I have a few users that are missing characters while printing msgs from Outlook 98 to a HPLJ4 Plus.

Everyone's email format is Outlook Rich Text. Attachment icons like .doc and .xls print out as black squares. Also, inserted tables don't correctly print out either. These problems are not happening to just one, but other HPLJ4 Plus printers from the same users. I also checked the email setting of the originator of the message and they're setup the same as the recipient.

Is this a font issue?

Please help, because I'm lost on this one.

Have you tried downloading the latest printer drivers? There's a link to HP on our links page.

Yes, that was the first thing I did.
I even checked the versions of the drivers from the problem system to another that prints the email correctly.
