Ibm IBM Laser Printer 4019

Unisys AP9210 = IBM4019 problem

I have come by a couple of old Unisys AP9210 laser printers (inside as IBM4019). One works fine with windows, the other only works as a generic text printer under windows, spewing garbage otherwise. I found a couple of ancient post via google suggesting that one day these printers just wake up having reverted to a non windows mode (the test page indicates the difference). They clearly still support a bunch or resident fonts (press the right buttons and you get a font page) but the window drivers want to download fonts.

Can anyone shed any light on this. Any fix or way of restoring the operating mode. Anyone have an old manual?

Look at the board on the right side of the printer- the side cover unclips easily- compare the boards that the printer cable plugs into
if they are different that could be the problem,
alot of those printers have proprietary boards that only work with a unisys computer

Thanks Andy. I solved the problem from info on old posts via google:

Hold the correct button down at power on to reset the emulation mode.
