Epson Epson Stylus Color 3000

Epson 3000 streaky black

The black print head on my Epson 3000 has been printing erratically, sometimes with good ink coverage, many times very streaky, or not at all. I've cleaned the head many times using the printer's head cleaning button and realigning afterwards. After this it will usually print one page less streaky, then I have to run the head cleaning process again before printing the next page.

I probably screwed up because I've been trying "guaranteed" third party inks (Rhinotek), although the colored heads print fine. I'm hoping the ink didn't do irreparable harm to the heads. I think my next step is to try the Epson Head Cleaning Solution Kit. But how do I get at the ink pads? Can I just slide the print head out of the way? I tried moving it and it made a terrible "you're stripping my gears" grinding noise. Do I have to take the top off the printer? Does the cleaning kit come with good instructions pertaining to my printer?

Thank you for your advice.
take to epson authorized service center. To replace the ink pads, you must remove the cover, remove the print mech from the bottom case, etc.
