HP5Si not switching to tray 3

Both tray 2 and tray 3 are using letter size paper. We do that to load enough paper to the printer so that when tray 2 is empty, printer will pick up paper from tray 3 and continue to print.
All of a sudden this stop working. When tray 2 is empty, the printer wait for tray 2 to be refilled and printing stop.
Any idea where to look?
Really not my strong area, but if I remember correctly you have to have the same type of paper listed in the tray menu. If tray 2 is plain and tray 3 is something else it will not switch over. I also thought that from the software you do not choose a tray, but rather just a paper size and as long a tray 3 and tray 2 have the same size and type it will take form tray 3 first and when that tray in empty go to tray 2. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestion.
I checked and find that the blue cross bar that define what kind of paper is in paper tray 3 was some how jammed into the A4 position although letter size paper was installed. I removed the bar, put it back to the correct position and the printer picks up paper from tray 3 when tray 2 is empty like it did before.
