Epson Epson LQ 850

Epson 850 won't do anything

I have an Epson 850. When I power it on, it does all the usual procedures, then all the lights come on.

The paper and power lights flash.
The black and colour ink lights are solid.

It won't print at all, not even a self test.

Could someone please help me! I really don't want to throw it away, but it seems I may have to.

Thanks in advance.
Sorry what I need to know is where the home position sensor is.

Can anyone give me any pictures of where it is and what I have to disassemble?

I checked the service manual and if the power and paper feed lights are flashing and both ink lights are on solid that indicates a Fatal Error. Which means a main board or component failure.

You may want to try the SSC service utility available from here
http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html and see if it can communicate with the printer. And then try the "Protecrion Counter" reset just as a attempt to recover the printer (this program only works under the Windows operating system. I don't know of any MAC software as of yet). There is a small CR2025/2032 battery on the main board which may be dead.

If you need any help with the SSC utility you can try this link http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/epsonssc.html

Unfortunately most fatal errors are caused by a component failure as I stated earlier. And with replacement parts being so expensive it usually is not cost effective to repair most printers with a fatal error.

If the SSC service utility does not work and still want to try to find the problem you can get a service manual from 2manuals.com

If I can be of any more help please feel free to email me.

You can download a part of the service manual which shows the sensor. The sensor is shown on page 3.8 the link is http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/temp.html download 800-850. It is a zip file but once unzipped is a section of the service manual in PDF format.

I hope this helps out.
