Epson 660 mis-printing

I have a customer that is using compatible ink cartridges. He's complaining that every once in a while a line is missing half the line. He'll print 20 lines OK and the next 1 will print as though the nozzles are clogged. Sounds like an intermitant issue. Want's to know is it's printer or ink? Anyone have any clues or how to remediate?
Ink and More: Normally when I see that type of problem its caused by either a bad cartridge, or a clogged or failing printhead assembly. Using Non-Epson Ink or Ink Cartridges in an Epson Printer, is the wrong ink and can sometimes actually damage the Printhead Assembly. Epsons use a completely different printhead inking system than most other brands of printers and correct Epson ink formulation is vital. Those printheads are one of the reasons that the Epson Printers make such quality color prints. Printer manufacters do not make available their ink formulation and in most cases, the formulation is patented. Any difference in the ink formulation can clog the small printhead nozzles or damage other critical components...Have your customer run the printers "Printhead Cleaning Cycle", with each cleaning cycle followed by a "Nozzle Test". Run sets of these tests, up to 6 to 10 times and if there are still nozzles not open, then its either a CLOG or a failing Printhead Assembly. The only way to really find out is to try using a "Printhead Cleaning Kit" and see if the nozzles can be opened or not. When you use Non-Epson Ink or Ink Cartridges, you take your chances, but almost everybody who does, has problems sooner or later...Denny Conway
