Epson Epson Stylus Pro Pro

epson c-81 does not complete page

Changed cartridges (yes, generics) and printer abruptly abandons jobs, leaving bands towards the end...

Changed two cartridges and after some cleaning, etc., it seemed to work mostly (though bombed out when I asked for anything more than five copies).

Then changed an additional cartridge and now can rarely print even a single page! I notice that the printer does not speed through the job the way it used to... if it hesitates for anything longer than 4 seconds, all is lost.

Have made multiple head cleanings, nozzle checks. Changed LPT1 to standard, instead of ECP. Doesn't help. Maybe it's that I recently deployed Epson's driver upgrade? Or am I running into memory/spool problem (not enough space on C:\\), and delay in shuffling is what screws up head?

I'm running XP Pro on a Pentium 4 2.4mhz with 1024mb RAM, and have approx. 8 gb left on my 25-gb C:\\ drive.

Any light that anyone can shed greatly appreciated!

Uninstalled printer, then reinstalled using original software. Will forego Epson's "update".
