HP 4ML prints only one page

My HP 4 ML will print single pages just fine, but if I send it more than one page it quits about one third of the way into the second page and all the LED lights come on. The only way to get it to work again is to power down, then power up again. This happened first some time ago, but it corrected itself. Now it seems to be permanently in this condition. Does anyone know how I can fix it?
We need the secondary light code to diagnosis the problem. When all the LEDs light up press the button and note which lights come on. This tells us what the failed component is. We have light codes for the 5L/6L on the troubleshooting page. We will be adding the 4L codes in the future.

HP LaserJet 4ML problem:
I am not sure which button or which light codes you mean. Let me try to explain the problem again.

If I try to print more than one page at a time, the printer prints two and one third pages, then all the lights come on at once (error, paper, data, ready) and it stops. All three pages pass through and are ejected correctly, there is no jam, but the last page is only partly printed. If I press the blue 'reset' bar the 'paper' light goes out, but comes back on when I release the button. The only way to print a new job is to turn the printer off, then on again. The problem occurs in exactly the same way if I print from my Mac through the serial port or with a PC through the parallel port. There is no error message fed back to the computer.
