Epson Printer Noise

I have an Epson 3000 Printer that is around 1 year old. I am getting a rather loud noise (sounds like the nylon gears are slipping) particularly when I perform a head cleaning. I'm told the shaft the head runs on needs to be cleaned and has to be performed by an authorized service center. I realize the printer is still under warranty BUT it's real inconvenient for me to leave it at a service center (closest is 20 miles away) for a period of time. Not to mention once the warranty is up I do not want to pay to have it cleaned if possible.

I have 2 questions, first, is this something I can perform myself? The second is What is causing this and can it be prevented?

Thanks in advance

Pete: If your noise is coming from the "carriage assembly" that the "print cartridge holder assembly" travels back-n-forth on, then you can probably clean and lubricate that assembly yourself. With use that assembly gets DRY and Dirty and needs cleaned and serviced, then lubricated to operate smoothly. There's no way to prevent it except with normal maintenance and servicing and it occurs on most, if not all ink jet style printers. I will e-mail you some general information that you can use if you want to...Good Luck! Denny Conway
