Duplex problem on color laserjet 3700dn
The printer prints fine on one sided jobs. When duplexing it prints one side, the page comes up, it goes down again and then stops about 10cm out of the fuser. Error 13.20.00
From the diagnostics menu I can run a paper path test, this works fine also on duplex! This seems to me to exclude sensor problems in the duplex pan.
Btw this is a printer given to me by its former owner. It had the well known solenoid getting stuck problem which I fixed. I am trying to fix it for my personal use so I don't know much about its history. I had it working for a while when I suddenly could not print duplex. I'm stuck. Have anyone seen this problem? Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for sharing this. I really enjoyed reading it. It is very good. This is interesting as well as very engaging. I couldn't stop until I finished it.
Take a look at the image on the top side, the one not fused. Is it properly centered?
Hi Moe thanks for the quick respons.
The top side is blank! I had not noticed that. Perhaps it is time to print with the door open to see what happens in there. I think I remember from the service manual that this is possible. If you think of something else I am happy to hear from you. You have already given me an important clue. Thanks. I'll look into this tomorrow and report back what I find.
So it turns out printing with the front door open is not an option... But a sensor test reveals that all sensors come on and off during printing even A and B (duplex related sensors). Reset to factory defaults and NVram init did not help. Some more paper path tests finally also resulted in paper jam during this test. Too bad errors during paper path tests does not get included in the event log (more details here than on the printer display). It seems from the code that i did get that paper is delayed before it reaches sensor PS4. My best guess is that the rollers driving the paper from the duplex pan are slipping causing a delay. Seems I have to remove the feed assembly to try and clean the rollers (very likely since the blue toner startet leeking all over the place possibly there is toner on the rollers). Time will show...
