paper jams on 5M printer
A long time ago, with help from here, I fixed my LaserJet 5M. I think this is the same problem.
First page prints fine, 2nd page gets accordion crumpling on bottom (trailing edge) of paper. The page jams just after the top edge comes out of the printer.
About a decade ago, I replaced a gummy rubber pad on a solenoid in the paper feed mechanism on the left side of the printer, by removing the paper feed machinery out the front. I replaced the gummy and flat pad with several layers of paper tape, and it worked fine. So, this time I got in there and redid the tape, but it still jams. Anybody recognize this symptom?
The accordion folding is indicative of a worn exit roller. The fuser pushes the paper out faster than the slipping exit roller moves it. The result is accordion folding.
OK, maybe that was a second problem that I fixed. Any suggestions where to get a replacement roller?
Thanks, ordered the parts!
Good luck Jon, please let us know if it fixes the problem :-)
Yup, it fixed it! Thanks much, again! I miked the old and new roller, it was worn down less than .005" diameter. But, that was enough to cause the crumpling.
This machine has over 178,000 pages printed, still works great with the occasional replacement part.
