Canon Canon Pixma MX700

Double imaging printing

Canon Pixma MX726. While trying to print up resume for my latest job search my printer started double image printing documents, about every 3rd or fourth line. After searching the internet, I cleaned the encoder strip on both sides with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud. Still printing double image. For the time being i have set print settings to photo matte paper standard print to bypass the pgbk ink tank. This is not a long term solution though as it wastes a lot of ink and is very slow. I'm unemployed at the moment and really can't afford to shell out for a new printer at the moment. This is the first time I have had any issues with this printer so would really love to hang on to it if possible. Have tried all the maintenance settings with no luck. I noticed that Trigger1937 is quite knowledgeable with Canon printers, hopefully he might see this message.

I think the 1937 next to Trigger is when he was born. He hasn't been on the forum in years. Alcohol has absolutely no effect on ink. Window cleaner is what you use. On a paper towel and gently place it over the strip with thumb and forefinger and slide back and forth. Avoid any pulling as you can pull it off the hooks at each end. You will be able to see the ink on the paper. I don't know if that will help, but it costs nothing to try.
