How to read Maintenance Box Service Life in Status Monitor

I've just notice an indicator in the Status Monitor that I never noticed before. A section of the window is labeled "Maintenance Box Service Life", and shows a vertical bar similar to the ink level indicators, but partially filled with a "dirty yellowish" fill. I can't find ANYTHING in Epson's documentation that says how to read it. The best I've found is instructions that say to "replace ink cartridges or maintenance box if indicated in the status monitor."

Here's my question: If the fill color fills the service life indicator almost to the top does that mean I've barely used any and have plenty of service life left, or does it mean it's almost used up. (the latter seems more likely, as the printer is several years old.)

2nd question: does the maintenance box affect print quality? I'm getting lots of gaps in my printing, and no amount of head cleaning seems to help.

sorry, no it's here

(Is there no way to edit or delete mistakes like this?)
