vertically smudging of the copies ... also where can I buy toner cartridges
1. Can I still get toner cartridges?
2. There are two or three vertical smudges about 2 inches wide running down the copies.
Your problem is a bad drum wiper blade. I think replacements are still available, but you have to cut the top off the cartridge to access it. We used to have a special jig and cutting tool and then we would buy the replacement blades and tops. That was over 20 years ago. I doubt they are available anymore. There are very few people still remanufacturing them. What most of them do is refill them and skip replacing the blades due to the difficulties involved. If you are able to find them on line, make sure you ask if they do replace the blades.
One other thing. The Chinese blade manufacturers recently changed something in the material of the blade. This resulted in more drag on the drum surface. That resulted in the drum drive gear in the printer splitting. I don't know if they've corrected it, but one more thing to worry about.
You have to realize how few of these printers are still operational. It just isn't worth it to supply the cartridges anymore. If you were to find a brand new sealed OEM in original box, don't touch it. The wiper blades in those will have totally disintegrated despite being sealed and never used.
