Hp HP LaserJet 4100TN

HP 4000 series cartridges sometimes don't fit other 4000 series printers

Some of my HP 4000 Cartridges fit in the HP4000tn, but not my HP 4100tn.

Looks like I could grind away some plastic, but the dust might clog either the printer or cartridge, if I didn't do it perfectly. Why is this happening? Is it HP's evil plan or the cartridge manufacturer, which may not be HP.

Thx, Breezyprint

All about the money. The 4100 has a chip in it to make you replace the cartridge before it is empty. The 4100 cartridge will fit in the 4000 because it is more expensive. The 4000 won't fit into the 4100. The 4000 cartridge won't work in the 4100 because it doesn't have a chip.
