scanner error 5
Printer keeps giving me error 5 turn off then on... I turn it off and turn it back on and that message doesn't come off
2 things can cause that. Scanner assy. Or formatter board. We will go with the free fix first. I came up with this procedure years ago. https://youtu.be/ek8XG9-FbV4
Yeah I've had some where both parts went bad, formatter's are notorious on this model of going bad and locking up. I've had some where customer said it was locking up and getting stuck on boot up. I go out next day to look at it and they had left the machine turned on locked up, I replace the formatter board to only see scanner error 5 show up and then have to return with a new scanner. I think the board locking up can cause the motor on the scanner to burn out but this model was a bad design from the day it was released so it may be the motors tend to burn out over time either way. Someone on Amazon sells the motor which would be cheaper than whole scanner replacement which at this point may not be worth the $100-200+ price considering the age.You can search that Q3948-60186 part number to see if it's cheaper elsewhere as I just picked the first link to share.
