Hp HP LaserJet 2420D

Grey marbling on all pages but no print.

Have a 2420 that didn't want to release the toner cartridge on the right side. Got it to release and replaced with a new one that seemed to hang somewhat on the right side at drive gear when inserted.

Ran a configuration page and all that was on page was a grey marbling...only thing changed was toner cartridge - not sure how printer was printing before cartridge changed.

I have never seen this before and don't want to take printer down unless it's needed. Any ideas??

You don't mention if it was an OEM or remanufactured. Do you still have the old cartridge you can try?

Both cartridges are OEM and they seem to hang on the right hand drive gear.

The grey marbling was the formatter ribbon cable not being totally seated.

Printer is printing correctly again but not sure why the gear will not recede when door opened and toner cartridge needs to be removed. Solenoid maybe?

That is strictly a mechanical function. The arm attached to the door moves the gear in and out when the door is opened or closed. Maybe the arm got detached or broken?

I double checked and the arm on the right side that recesses the gear was not attached to the door. Reconnected arm to door and cartridge installs\ removes cleanly now.

Good catch Moe!!
