Source for good replacement 74A cartridge?
I just put in a new printer cartridge that I bought on Amazon about a year ago. 74A HP packaging, made in China. Unfortunately, it's bad. Toner smears are on the printout. When I swapped back to the spent cartridge, the problem went away. I hate to throw away money, but I do love this printer. Do they make good cartridges any more?
Sounds like wiper blade failure. The blades are replaceable, but it's difficult and very messy. Those cartridges are old and hard to find people still rebuilding them. You can try directpreciseimaging.com and see if they still do them.
Yes, it was wiper blade failure, I'm sure. The curse of "new old stock" and the HP original was just too old. I was worried my dear Laserjet 4L was destined to retire while still perfect.
BUT, I am happy to report that I now have a good remanufactured toner cartride from www.4inkjets.com, and it appears that they indeed did use a new wiper blade. So far I have printed 50 pages without a flaw - the "new" HP original that I tried started showing "toner junk" from crummy wiper after fewer than 30 pages. So for now I think I have a winner, and it wasn't too expensive! The product I purchased was "LD Remanufactured 92274A / 74A Black Laser Toner for HP."
I'll post again if my experience goes south. Hope this helps someone else too.
