Print Density varies

Using the printer test page contained in the "Windows 7" software, the text lines are light, with some density variation between lines. Changing Print Density from the "default" (3) to 4 only showed a slight improvement. Does it take a number of print copies before additional improvement can be seen?

The Printer Test page contained in the 4L (selected by pressing the blue switch on the printer) prints fairly well, especially the graphics. But under "Printer Information" on this test page, Density is showing only 3. How does one get the printer to change its print density to print its own test page? Assume that under the "Printer Information", printer configuration should then show a Density change from 3.
